If you're making hamburgers on the grill this weekend, double the recipe and save yourself some prep time later in the week. Hamburgers and Sailsbury steak use the same form of beef patties, but give you two different presentations and dining experiences.
Foodie extraordinaire James Beard's hamburger recipe calls for 1 ingredient - ground beef. He does baste the outside with butter to give it a good gristle when it grills, but the point is, a good hamburger does not need a lot of mix-ins. Toppings are another story. I like mine with Swiss cheese and salsa, some prefer ketchup and pickles, my husband likes Worcestershire and blue cheese. That's the best thing about burgers. They are flexible and easily personalized. So, top your burgers with your favorite fixings this week, and use the leftover beef patties to enjoy a deliciously beefy and mushroom-flavored steak dinner.
