Although many people prefer to avoid Spam and instead purchase fresh meats, canned, pre-cooked meat can be very useful, and at times, quite delicious.
Nobody considers Spam a gourmet food, as its nutritional value and price are comparable to those of supermarket bologna, but this type of canned meat is very useful for many purposes. Making a quick meal out of spam is easier than it is with most other meats, and when cooked with other ingredients, Spam can actually be pretty tasty. It is great for camping trips, as buyers get a lot of meat at low prices, and the canned product lasts much longer than many other meats. Following are some great uses for this type of lunch meat. Spam in a SandwichSpam can easily be substituted for any lunch meat on just about any type of sandwich. it is actually very good after it has been thinly sliced, and sauteed in a frying pan for a few minutes, and served as a bacon substitute on a BLT. A little bit of mayonnaise, some lettuce, sliced tomato, and thin, sauteed spam slices on toasted bread is very good, and can be prepared in a matter of minutes. The same sandwich, with the addition of sliced cheese, a couple of strips of bacon, and mustard (optional) makes for a delicious club sandwich, with Spam as the prime ingredient. Spam is also tasty on sandwiches where it takes the place of bologna. Breakfast Cooking with SpamSpam is somewhat of a mutipurpose meat. It can be used in many different meals and along with many other ingredients, one major one of which is eggs. Making a can of Spam into small cubes of meat with a knife, before mixing the meat in with eggs when making scrambled eggs turns out to be a tastier version of scrambled eggs Diced tomato is great in scrambled eggs with Spam as well. Omelettes that incorporate the canned meat are also great. Cubed Spam, chopped onion, minced green or red bell pepper, diced tomato, and American or cheddar cheese combine well as the filling for any omelette. Spam is also great on a biscuit, with egg and cheese. Camping Foods with SpamOne of the greatest attributes that Spam has to offer is its ability to be easily brought along on outdoor excursions. This canned meat does not need constant refrigeration, nor does it even require cooking, so it is a great survival food. When camping, Spam is one of the most basic foods to cook over a fire, and there are a number of ways to do this. One simple meal that is very easy to make when camping involves Spam and potatoes. A frying pan is necessary for this meal (as is a little oil to grease the pan), and after the pan is heated over a campfire, diced spam and diced potatoes should be sauteed in the pan for a couple of minutes, and then flipped and stirred around, and sprinkled with salt and pepper. What results is basically hash browns with the addition of meat, and it is actually very tasty, and takes only minutes to prepare. Spam sauteed in a pan along with chopped onion, and curry powder is also a very basic but tasty campfire meal. Although not many other ingredients are required when cooking with Spam, the meat is very handy, and can be quite tasty. There are at present many different flavors of canned Spam, which may be utilized in various ways. This meat really is one of the very easiest foods to bring camping, and it should be considered a campfire staple.
